How did the earthquake occur?

Haiti rests on the carribean plate, which is one of the worlds tectonic plates. These plates move and shift arounds sometimes rubbing with one another. When these plates push past eachother it causes a tremor in the earths surface which is an earthquake.

Below is a picture of a Haitian child who miraculously survived and is reunited with his mum as a rescue worker pulls him out of the rubble. The boy survived 3 days without food or water under his collapsed house. The parents said they could hear their sons faint voice as he cried beneath the rubble as the parents dug with their bare hands to rech to the boy.

Amazing survival stories

Below is the image of an American who amazingly survived after being trapped in a destroyed hotel in Montana for over 50 hours

On the 22nd of January the United Nations noted that the releif operation was soon stopping. The following day the Haitian government officialy called of the search for survivors.
Kid Smugglers

10 members of a U.S church group were arrested on suspicion of smuggling kids from Haiti.
The ten kid smugglers are due in court on Monday.

A group of volunteers have leased a forty five room hotel in Cabarete as a temporary shelter for the homeless Haitian children to stay.

The Haitian people have now turned to looting as of the scarce amount of food left. The aid is being provided at too slow a rate for the people to cope. Many cars have been hijacked. A local UN warehouse was raided where 15,000 tonnes of food was stockpiled.

Two young sisters had been buried under rubble for 6 days and were finally found by rescue workers. It's a miracle that they survived said a reporter in Haiti.
